The potential health benefits of probiotics have been known for decades; however, it is only in recent years that researchers have begun to thoroughly investigate their therapeutic potential. Studies have shown that certain strains of probiotics can have beneficial effects on metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, as well as other health conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. Probiotics’ ability to modulate the gut microbiome, reduce inflammation, and improve insulin sensitivity has led to their increasing use as adjunctive therapy for various diseases.
Previous reports showed that some probiotics provide beneficial effects on various diseases including metabolic disorders. This study aimed to investigate the anti-obesity effects of Lactiplantibacillus (L.) plantarum SKO-001 (SKO-001), a probiotic strain newly isolated from Angelica gigas. Mi Jin Choi et al.
In the development of obesity, adipocytes become enlarged, consequently causing impaired insulin sensitivity and pro-inflammatory and diabetogenic conditions. Using PreciPoint ViewPoint Software, researchers determined the size of adipocytes in the tissue samples.
